Already with their first recording for brambus, the band „Standards Of Rumantsch“ was well accepted in the jazz scene. With the new masterpiece, they continue their way, including some very famous guests such as vocalist Corin Curschellas and a strings group. The new CD contains 16 new titles with over one hour playing time.

Randulin, a train bird, more exactly described a swallow.  In the Engadin valley, Randulin stands also for emigrant that keeps returning gladly into the “Bündner” mountains.  “Standards of Rumantsch” sees itself thoroughly as musical „Randulins“, which integrates its musical experiences from around the world into the traditional romance compositions.

On this CD, SoR finds its actual root of the romance language  The musical development of many other Latin languages becomes the main theme and evolves like our „linguistic siblings“ with the singing Latin words and melody.

Cuban Son, Caribbean Calypso, Jamaican Reggae, Brazilian samba have all one thing in common, they originate out of the Latin and show an incredible energy and passion for life.

Where lie the roots of the vast Romansh song tradition? In classical music, folk musik or even in jazz? Wherever the songs may have their roots, Standards Of Rumantsch carries the compositions into the new milennium, combining traditional melodies with contemporary jazz influences in all their stylistic facets. The familiar tunes remained thereby unchanged, however new harmonic and rhythmic arrangements and instrumentations were applied.
The musical journey begins with the bell ringing of the Postplatz in Chur. Fontaunas Clar Resunan resounds there several times a day during a certain time of the year. This classic from the Romansh choir literature is taken up by the band and brought to the roots of jazz, the blues.
Da Cumpignia has already made a splash at the Eurovision Song Contest and has thus within a short time established itself as a Romansh standard.
Africa, the continent of rhythm, is the point of departure for Sault Nocturn, an afrodance, wich constantly pulls the listener back and forth between two rhythms and thereby even spans an arch to the legendary Elvin Jones.
Has Buca Mamma Pli is a Heart-wrenching ballad. With increadible drama it soars into infinity, inspired by the compositions and the playing of Wayne Shorter. And this excellent listening goes on.
Standards Of Rumantsch combines the traditional chorus compositions with the new possibilities of jazz - in an excellent way and played by excellent musicians and guests on vocals and percussion! Hopefuly to be heard soon all over the world!
