Jack Hardy is most probably New York's best songpoet in decades! After many LP's in the 70's and 80's, Brambus Records released "Retrospective" in 1989 and "Through" in 1990. And after one release for the French New Rose label, Jack Hardy is back with Brambus and presents a very strong musical piece with high poetical lyrics, very deep and with fine musical arrangements.

"The album 'Civil Wars'," Jack tells us, "was recorded as a live mix to two-track DAT with everyone playing at once. No overdubs, no fix it in the mix, no kidding, no prisoners. Even the roche sisters sang their harmonies live. It's what we call "guerilla recording". The songs are a live-mix of my influences. Musically: country western, traditional folk, rock & roll. Lyrically: politics, mythology, ecology, love and hate. Civil wars of the sexes, civil wars of the soul, civil wars of nations, civil wars with nature, civil wars of the artist and the bourgeoisie."

"She played the part of a virgin,
She played it all too well,
in real life she was a veteran
in the wars of kiss and tell."
