A very warm welcome in the brambus jazz family for Switzerland’s most grooving, most requested Soul Jazz Band!

These four musicians (piano, vibes, bass, drums) are vital representatives of honest, solid and swinging mainstream jazz, four strong personalities with a longtime identification as part of the main stem of Switzerland’s jazz scene. The Robi Weber Quartet as a unit belonging into the category of those bands which evidently are able to master the combination of entertainment and pretension.

The music of this quartet reflects the important influence of soul jazz, inherent in the bands style to distinguish and indentify their musical direction. The foursome has undergone a considerable musical development during the many years of working together and at this point in time displays a genuine «groovy» feeling for jazz.
Successfully featured on Jazz Festivals such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Cully, Montreux, Vienna and Zurich, the group has also played countless gala performances, clubdates and concerts, made several recordings (CDs «Mercy, Mercy, Mercy», «All That Blues», «All That Groove», «All That Soul», and «Jazzy Groove - Groovy Jazz» (with very special guest Nubya), radio and TV-appearances. All that and their tours of Africa, India, Thailand, Bosnia-Herzegovina (invited by the Swiss Ambassador) and recently China (Shanghai) evidently reflect the popularity of the Robi Weber Quartet.

Liner-Notes of Hanspeter Vetsch to the new album:

The content of the album “Jazzy Groove – Groovy Jazz” is in need of further explanations: The music is by no means the result of  Weber + Weil + Gerhards + Treier, it should be understood as Weber x Weil x Gerhards x Treier! Throughout many years, this combo has developed a remarkable tightness, whereby the musicians complement each other with their almost transcendent interaction which results in a tight sound never to appear strained or even strenuous. The combination of piano and vibes guarantees transparency, while the rhythm tandem delivers the imperative compact and solid foundation. Furthermore, the four peers luckily never fall into the dangerous trap of cheap musical tricks, even though we are already looking at their fifth album. While instrumental dexterity does remain part of the showcase, their performance is at all times geared towards the prerequisites of teamwork.

Their concept is best suited for a music style moving lightly between swinging jazz, earthy blues and relaxed grooves. Tunes written by such divers composers as Jimmy Heath, Fats Waller or Leon Russell, apparently at random tied together with original compositions, would at first sight seem stylistically a bit too pretentious and confusing. However, said random sequence does not prevail, the program has been established with eloquent taste and know-how to finally represent a showcase of the Robi Weber Quartet as a unit belonging into the category of those bands, which evidently are able to master the combination of entertainment and pretension.

Female vocalist Nubya sets further highlights on three of the tracks. She unfolds her vocal talent on the basis of the group’s accompaniment, without letting the musicians be degraded to mere accessories. To let this become successful has to do with the clever arrangements by Weber and Weil, which garnish the entire proceedings on this CD. Taking all that into consideration, it leads to the conclusion, that Jazzy Grooves – Groovy Jazz can be regarded from whichever angle as a definite certificate of maturity by everyone concerned.

Willkommen zur zweiten CD des ROBI WEBER QUARTET bei Brambus!

Jazz Soul - Soul Jazz. Musikalische Snapshots einer kleinen Grossstadt - Zürich. Wechselnde Orte. Verschiedene Zeiten. Bekannte Gesichter. Neue Freunde. Zeitlose Situationen. Vier Freunde unterwegs: Das Robi Weber Quartet. Virtuosen ihres Fachs.

3) Save Your Love For Me.

Cool, busy, time pressed, wichtig, vielleicht ein bisschen ruppig. Aber immer in Style und locker. Partyvolk eben.

5) Basin Street Blues. Nostalgie. Zurücklehnen im alten Polster eines Niederdorf-Kaffees. Ein Latte Macchiato auf dem Silbertablett. Eine Zeitung mit einem dicken Kulturteil. News müssen draussen bleiben, denn hier steht die Zeit still.

6) Daahoud. Business-Lounge-Break. Geschäftiges treiben. Moderne, leichtfüssige, elegante Menschen. Viel Drive. Zwischendurch einen Espresso. Das Handy klingelt. Schnell weiter.

7) Chocolate Blues.

8) Leroy The Magician.

9) Maraba Blue. Abendspaziergang am See.

11) In Your Quiet Place.

Was geht noch ab? Irgendwo muss ja noch was los sein! Wo sind die Komplizen der Nacht?

13) Manteca. Businesswoman. Elegant und top gestylt. Immer beschäftigt. Getrieben von Handy und Handtaschen-Agenda. Kleine Make-up-Korrektur.

14) One Night At The Hotel. Vielleicht in Petruccianis Hotel?

15) Topsy. Endspurt.
