We are extremelly proud to deliver the new release of the fantastic combination of famous piano player STEWY VON WATTENWYL and his group with the outstanding singer NICOLE HERZOG. Their first release in 2013 got award with the SWISS JAZZ AWARD in 2014. This one would be ready for a new Award for 2016 - allready now, a few weeks after the year stars....

Copenhagen-based singer Nicole Herzog and Bernese pianist Stewy von Wattenwyl first joined forces on their successful 2014 release “Intimacy“, which went straight to being awarded Swiss Jazz Album Of The Year in the same year. Now the two are excited to present their highly anticipated follow-up, “I Loves You Billie“. Herzog and von Wattenwyl dedicate their second oeuvre to Jazz greats Billie Holiday and George Gershwin. Holiday would have celebrated her 100th anniversary in 2015 and Gershwin’s musical “Porgy and Bess“ came into being more than 80 years ago. Thus they consciously chose to concentrate on music that had long passed its test of time.

What’s so captivating about this recording: Jazz history is preserved here, it’s all wrapped up in the classic nostalgia alluding to the smokey basements of New York and Paris in the 1930s. However, don’t be fooled into false expectations: von Wattenwyl’s tasteful arrangements display an affinity for contemporary music, and Herzog’s interpretations vary immensely, from carefully timed delicate phrases to unexpected forceful outbursts. Supported by an unceasingly intense hard swinging band this record shows von Wattenwyl and Herzog at their best, always performing with depth and full of devotion. Don’t miss!

Stewy Von Wattenwyl has recorded several beautiful CDs for brambus, the backprogram is still highly recommended:

«I first heard vocalist Nicole Herzog sing a few years ago when she was a student at the Jazz Generations workshop in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. I was a member of the faculty, and I recall that it was immediately clear to me and all the other instructors that we were witnessing a talented young lady with a beautiful voice plus elegance and grace to match! As I listen to her wonderful performance on her first recording, Time Will Tell, I am just as impressed as I was the very first time I heard her.»

A new great voice together with the finest piano player of Switzerland these days!

Nicole Herzog - Stewy von Wattenwyl Group

Stewy von Wattenwyl works with Brambus since nearly two decades and has a long list of excellent releases on the label – and he offers new collaborations regularly. This one here is his newest project full of intensity and tactfulness. 2007 was the first concert – occasionally – of Nicole Herzog (Congo-rooted Swiss singer) and Stewy von Wattenwyl. at a jazz-club in Zurich. And the concert was so much fun that they were talking about a CD project the same night. It took five years and many concerts together and another coincidence that the two teamed up again to realize their cd project together with some other of the finest Swiss jazz artists. The result is overwhelming: refreshing vocal-jazz in various ad-hoc formations from duo to quintet, beautiful earthly ballads, and bossas, blues and cooking swing. Magic moments to be recorded in thrilling sound quality.
